We have explored the relationships between the reaction force F(n), the reaction force constant j(n) and the projected force constants of the intramolecular proton transfer HO N@S? O@N SH along the intrinsic reaction coordinate n. The structural changes and energetics associated with the reaction are analyzed in terms of the three regions defined by F(n): reactant, transition and product. The significance of the similarity between j(n) and the variation of the force constant associated to the reaction coordinate mode, kn(n), is discussed in detail. 2008 Elsevier B.V. Computational study of the intramolecular proton transfer between 6-hydroxypicolinic acid tautomeric forms and intermolecular hydrogen bonding in their dimers

This paper is a density functional theory (DFT) calculation of intramolecular proton transfer (IPT) in 6-hydroxypicolinic acid (6HPA, 6-hydroxypyridine-2-carboxylic acid) tautomeric forms. The transition state for the enol-to-keto transition is reported in the gas phase and in four different solvents. The planar and non-planar dimer forms of 6HPA keto and enol, respectively, were also studied i...

Diabatic ordering of vibrational normal modes in reaction valley studies

Diabatic ordering of the normal model of a reaction complex along the reaction path has several advantages with regard to adiabatic ordering. The method is based on rotations of the vibrational normal modes at one point, s, of the reaction path to maximize overlap with the vibrational modes at a neighboring point. Global rotations precede the rotations of degenerate modes so that changes in the...

Rate constants and products for the reaction of HBr ÷ with HBr and DBr

The proton transfer channel for the reaction of HBr + with HBr is investigated in a state-specific manner by preparing the reagent ion in a selected internal state by resonance-enhanced ionization (REMPI) and monitoring the disappearance of this ion by laser-induced fluorescence (LIF). A rate constant for proton transfer of (6.7 + 1.6) × 10-10 cm3/s is found. The reaction of HBr + with HBr and ...

The Importance of Ensemble Averaging in Enzyme Kinetics

CONSPECTUS: The active site of an enzyme is surrounded by a fluctuating environment of protein and solvent conformational states, and a realistic calculation of chemical reaction rates and kinetic isotope effects of enzyme-catalyzed reactions must take account of this environmental diversity. Ensemble-averaged variational transition state theory with multidimensional tunneling (EA-VTST/MT) was ...

Reaction Dynamics of NH2+OH on an Interpolated Potential Energy Surface

QCT calculations were performed to study the behavior of energized NH2OH formed by association collision of NH2 radical with OH radical. A potential energy surface that describes the behavior of the title reaction has been constructed by interpolation of ab initio data. H2O, HON, HNO, NH3, O, H2NO, cis or trans-HONH, and H products and two vibrationally energized NH2OH and NH3O adducts were obs...
